Downtown Detroit is gearing up for the holiday season with the return of the Somerset Collection CityLoft, and a broader shopping presence along Woodward.
CityLoft, a sampling of stores and merchandise from the upscale Somerset Collection in Troy, is scheduled to open at noon on Thursday. After that, its hours will be noon – 9 p.m Thursdays through Sundays until Dec. 22.
CityLoft, located at 1261 Woodward across the street from the site of the former Hudson’s department store, is expected to sell merchandise from about 60 Somerset stores, including: Coach, Eddie Bauer, Vera Bradley, Pottery Barn Kids, Restoration Hardware, Bachrach, Anne Fontaine, Saks Fifth Avenue, Aveda, Lilly Pulitzer, Williams-Sonoma, Sur la Table, Forever 21, Brooks Brothers, Bare Escentuals, Art of Shaving, Kiehl’s, Bath and Body Works, Lacoste, Lego, Swarovski and Ralph Lauren.
The complete roster of stores has yet to be released.
Last holiday season, CityLoft was open just one weekend. This year’s expanded schedule, said Linda MacIntosh, marketing manager for Somerset Collection, is a result of shopper demand. “The people that shopped CityLoft last year during the holiday … We had so many thank you emails.”
CityLoft will be the anchor of a holiday retail event that will take up the entire east side of the 1200 block of Woodward. Moosejaw Mountaineering, at 1275 Woodward, has been open on Thursdays-Sundays. At noon on Friday, other retailers are scheduled to open.
They will include: The Detroit Shoppe (Detroit-centric merchandise); Santa’s Wonderland (a shop where kids can purchase inexpensive gifts for family members); Detroit Art Shoppe (original work from Detroit artists); Spinergy (a gym with stationary bikes); Papa Joe’s Snack Rack (a sampling of healthy products from specialty grocer Papa Joe’s).
After Friday, all the stores on the 1200 block are scheduled to be open noon – 9 p.m. Thurs.-Sat. through Dec. 22, except on Thanksgiving. On that day, only Moosejaw will be open; its hours are to be 7 a.m. – noon.
