Wayne County’s Aerotropolis Development Corp. is scheduled to vote on a $5.8 million investment by a charter air company based at Ypsilanti’s Willow Run Airport.

The county says Kalitta Charters’ expansion would create about 80 new jobs. It’s up for discussion today. The company plans to move its engine maintenance and repair operations from Willow Run to nearby Ypsilanti Township.

Kalitta also wants to expand two buildings at Willow Run and add office and administrative space.

Aerotropolis Development is the administrative arm of the Aerotropolis, a project designed to lure aviation-related businesses to the area. Backers of the project have said the Aerotropolis could create 64,000 jobs and add about $10 billion in annual economic activity
