Faurecia North America Inc. is planning to build a new North American headquarters and technical center in Auburn Hills.
Faurecia, the fifth-largest auto supplier in the world, hopes to construct a three-story, 300,000-square-foot headquarters that will house its administration and a light assembly operation, said Stacy Fields, asset manager of business development for Southfield-based General Development Co. General Development is the developer and general contractor for the building, which will be leased.
The headquarters will sit on 211 acres at I-75 and University Drive at the Oakland Technology Park and will ultimately house about 700 employees, some of which will be new hires, Fields said.
Industry sources said the new headquarters will be a $30 million development.
General Development bought the Oakland Technology Park property from Chrysler Group LLC in 2010, Fields said.
Construction on the building is expected to begin in the next 30-60 days, and it’s expected to open in the first quarter of next year, according to Fields.
The Faurecia headquarters will be in the same area as the 55,000-square-foot Henniges Automotive North America Inc. headquarters and the 250,000-square-foot U.S. Farathane Corp. headquarters, Fields said.
Faurecia also has a research and development center at 2500 Executive Hills Drive in Auburn Hills; a production plant at 42555 Merrill Road in Sterling Heights; a production plant at 6100 Sims Drive in Sterling Heights; and a research and development center at 2380 Meijer Road in Troy.
The Auburn Hills Planning Commission is slated to consider site plan approval for the project at its meeting tonight at 7 p.m.
It will be held at Auburn Hills City Hall, located at 1827 N. Squirrel Road.
