Ford Motor Co. on Tuesday unveiled upgrades to its off-road SVT Raptor for the 2014 model year.
The new Raptor, on sale this fall, will come in a Ruby Red Metallic exterior color and includes new box-side graphics.
Interior upgrades include Brick Red seat bolsters with black inserts and cloth honeycomb highlights.
Raptor SE will also be available in Tuxedo Black Metallic. Pricing has not yet been announced for the truck. Specifications, including fuel efficiency, should be the same as on the 2013 model.
“Raptor owners are looking for a high-performing, uncompromising off-road pickup truck with the features and luxuries found in today’s premium trucks,” said Doug Scott, Ford truck group marketing manager in a statement. “Since its launch in 2009, we’ve continually moved Raptor forward in capability and design, and the 2014 Special Edition is the best Raptor yet.”
The Raptor is a relatively low-volume vehicle, but sales regularly top 1,000 each month as fans across the globe clamor for the unique truck. Sales in 2013 are up 14 percent compared to last year.
The truck, since its 2010 model year introduction, has quickly become a sought-after vehicle, with buyers on the gray market — outside authorized dealer channels — paying four times the U.S. sticker price for the pickup.
Newly wealthy truck fans in China have lusted over the SVT Raptor with its aggressive styling, heavy-duty skid plates and long-travel suspension, and big-bore 6.2-liter V-8 engine that gets 411 horsepower and 434 pound-feet of torque.
