Friedman commits to sustainability and lowering energy costs

Farmington Hills, Michigan (March 1, 2013) – Friedman Integrated Real Estate Solutions, one of the nation’s premier providers of commercial real estate services, is committed to promoting sustainability throughout its management portfolio. In an effort to reduce energy usage, Friedman maintains best practice procedures and works to earn Energy Star awards for office buildings across the nation.

To be awarded an Energy Star ranking, the building must score at least 75 points on a 100-point scale to be ranked in the top performance category. In order to determine a score, the gas, electric and water usage levels are analyzed in comparison to buildings of similar size and nature in the area.

Friedman follows a strict stability regimen, which emphasizes altering everyday office behaviors to be more ecological. “We make every effort to utilize environmentally-friendly products to enhance the performance of our properties,” said Brian Bass, Vice President of Commercial Management. “Our standard operating practices, such as using high efficiency fluorescent and LED lighting where applicable, and strictly monitoring the building’s after-hours energy usage, have a profound impact on the environment.”

Office buildings release a significant amount of greenhouse gas emissions into the atmosphere, which can have adverse consequences on the environment. In an effort to minimize greenhouse gas emissions, Friedman’s Construction team installs energy-saving HVAC systems and insulated windows, which maximize building efficiency. This reduces operating costs for tenants, while also promoting a healthy work setting. “We’re finding that prospective tenants are more conscious of the environment than ever before,” said Jim Parinello, Vice President of Construction. “We want to encourage this trend by creating a sustainable atmosphere for our tenants.”

Friedman has implemented recycling programs throughout its office locations and at many of its managed properties. Large recycling bins are strategically placed in areas with high paper volume, such as next to printers and in copy rooms. The bins are regularly collected so its contents can be recycled. There are also additional bins to collect commonly used materials such as plastic, cardboard, and tin. Friedman is enthusiastic about furthering their ecological mission, and being environmentally-proactive.
