Friedman Real Estate Partners with Michigan Urban Farming Initiative to Support Community Growth

Posted on May 29, 2025

At Friedman Real Estate, giving back is part of our culture. Recently, our team volunteered with the Michigan Urban Farming Initiative (MUFI), a 100% community-funded nonprofit dedicated to transforming Detroit’s North End through urban agriculture, education, and sustainability.

About MUFI: Driving Community Impact Through Urban Farming

MUFI is a leader in using urban farming to promote education, sustainability, and neighborhood revitalization. Their campus features:
  • A working urban farm
  • Indoor and outdoor gardens
  • A sensory garden
  • A renovated commercial property that now provides housing for interns
This innovative approach demonstrates how reinvestment can strengthen local communities and create lasting impact.

Friedman’s Volunteer Day: Making a Difference Together

During our volunteer event, Friedman team members rolled up their sleeves to help MUFI with essential tasks, including:
  • Planting and weeding garden beds
  • Tending to herbs and crops
  • Building and maintaining flower beds
  • Working in indoor and sensory gardens
  • Supporting improvements in the commercial space
Our collective effort paid off. In just one day, Friedman volunteers completed work that would typically take MUFI three weeks to finish—a true testament to teamwork and collaboration.

Financial Support: $2,500 Donation to MUFI

Beyond hands-on involvement, Friedman Real Estate proudly donated $2,500 from our Employees’ Charity of Choice fund to MUFI. This contribution reflects our commitment to supporting organizations that make measurable impacts in the communities where we live and work.

Why This Matters: Community Engagement and Sustainability

Urban farming initiatives like MUFI are critical for creating sustainable food systems, educating residents, and revitalizing neighborhoods. By partnering with MUFI, Friedman Real Estate reinforces its dedication to community development and social responsibility in Detroit and beyond.
