Sachse Construction to open office in downtown Detroit

Birmingham-based Sachse Construction will open a Detroit office in the Guardian Building.

Company President Todd Sachse said opening the office is a move to keep up with the downtown work his company is doing.

“It’s a matter of being more efficient,” he said. “We’ve got days where we have a 10 a.m. meeting and then a 2 p.m. meeting. We’re going back and forth too much.”

The 1,100-square-foot office will accommodate the staff doing construction projects downtown, Sachse said. Downtown work has become a growing segment of the company’s business.

Sachse Construction does office-building interior construction in addition to retail and residential construction. The company also has done a lot of work building out retail spaces and food concessions in airports.

After doing the interior build-out for the Quicken Loans Inc. downtown headquarters, Sachse will be doing work in Quicken founder Dan Gilbert’s recently acquired Chase Tower and Madison Theater buildings.

Sachse also did build-out work for the Guardian Building and is doing work in the Renaissance Center and at 150 West Jefferson.

“There’s just a lot of renovation work to be done in Detroit right now,” he said. “It’s an exciting time.”

Sachse said he’s unsure how permanent the Guardian office will be, given that he has done so much work for Quicken Loans and Gilbert, who will be renovating several downtown buildings.

“They’re a great client of ours, so we might wind up moving into one of their buildings at some point,” he said of Quicken.
